Barcelona-based artist Anna Rierola presents a piece of digital art that recreates the fascinating and mysterious triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch. The symbolism of that work around concepts such as the creation of the world, paradise, lust, or sin is transformed here into the complex system of the multiple levels of biological organization (organelles, cells, tissues, organs, functions) thanks to images collected by researchers at the Biomedical Research Institute of Barcelona using microscopes to study different processes and life stages. Her master’s degree in Contemporary Art and Aesthetics provided Anna Rierola with the opportunity to deeply reflect on the links between science and art, inspiring a shift in her trajectory: exploring and interpreting scientific images.
