Dania Shihab (Baghdad, 1982) is a transnational artist, musician, curator, and emergency physician based in Barcelona. As a sound artist, her work focuses on identity, borders, and displacement, drawing from her experience with transitions as a forced migrant. Using samplers and field recording techniques, and employing her voice as a sound instrument with cultural and gender agendas, she composes long-duration electroacoustic pieces. Since 2014, she has directed the platform Paralaxe Editions, through which she publishes experimental sound works by boundary-crossing artists and curates live concerts and events. In 2023, Paralaxe Editions became affiliated with the Hangar space in Barcelona. She has also performed at festivals and venues such as Sonic Acts, Sónar, Mira, She Makes Noise, and Cafe Oto. Shihab has released several musical works related to her migrant experience and transitioning cultural identity, including “Voz” (2022) and “Foreign Body” (2023). Since 2018, she hosts a monthly program on Barcelona’s Dublab radio platform.
