Right after its premiere at the POESIA i + festival, we’ll be able to enjoy a piece that is both a poetry recital and a techno session. It’s a collaborative project between two versatile performers: Judit Cortina, here in charge of sound design, live music, and sampling, and Francesc Cuéllar, who recites the text at a lectern. “Tobetta” narrates the emotional journey of Llorenç: not the martyr or the saint, but a young man who grows up under the influence of Christian dogma and decides to apostatize. In a way, it’s a continuation of the poetry collection “Nueve lugares hostiles donde gritar,” which Francesc published in 2020 with illustrations by Andrea Carbó. As Quim Bigas wrote in the foreword, this “collection of poems emanates questions and reflections that place us between religion/education and self-discovery.” “Tobetta” takes the reins of an imposed imaginary to resignify it and give it its own identity, more fragile and vulnerable, but purer.
