“Des de la cuina” (Bankrobber, 2023) is the first solo album by Barcelona-based singer, double bassist, and composer Magalí Datzira. With extensive experience on stage and a background that took her from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band to the Conservatory of Amsterdam via the ESMUC, this work reaffirms her as one of the country’s most free-spirited and unclassifiable artists. While rooted in jazz, her trajectory draws from diverse influences: from funk to electronic pop and from Mediterranean sounds to urban rhythms. Recorded firsthand and with a mainly acoustic sound, “Des de la cuina” is a warm collection of intimate and approachable songs sung in Catalan, Spanish, English, Italian, and Portuguese. Although she performs most of the album herself, it also features collaborators such as Lucía Fumero, Darío Barroso, or Toni Mora, as well as a string trio (Carlos Monfort, Uixi Amargós, and Andrea Amador), and Mexican singer Fuensanta, who co-writes and sings “Devorando bofetadas”.
