The blue LEDs, colloquially known as “mushrooms” by computer engineers and which appeared in 1993 as “a new invasive species capable of economically coloring screens and saturating the world with electronic devices,” are the protagonists of this art installation. Its author, Marc Anglès, holds a Ph.D. cum laude in Advanced Studies in Artistic Productions from the University of Barcelona, where he previously completed a master’s degree in Artistic Production and Research and graduated in Fine Arts. At the center of his artistic practice, we find a structural analysis of the discursive technologies that condition our gaze and behavior. Beyond machines or electronic devices, culture, language, gender, or even heritage can also become “tools” for the transmission of ideas. Currently, Anglès is a professor in the Department of Visual Arts and Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UB and in the Degree in Arts at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
