Hailing from Lalín (Galicia), Mario G. Cortizo is a percussionist, composer, and sound creator specializing in classical, contemporary, and world music. After studying at the ESMuC (Barcelona) and the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (Netherlands), he has shared the stage with Pierre Boulez, Michael Nyman, Ainhoa Arteta, Lang Lang, Paquito D’Rivera, Carlos Núñez, and Cristina Pato, and has presented his creations in venues and festivals such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Mercat de les Flors, MACBA, IVAM (Institut Valencià d’Art Modern), Festival Grec, Temporada Alta, Palau de la Música Catalana, Teatro Circo Price de Madrid, or the Festival Internacional de Circo de São Paulo. One of his most recent pieces, “Só un solo” (Martín Códax Award for Galician Music in the classical and contemporary category), perfectly reflects his restless and exploratory spirit, oscillating between innovation and tradition. Presented at festivals such as Next in Berlin, Resis in A Coruña, Fira Mediterrània in Manresa, or the Max Awards, it includes everything from a tambourine solo with electronics to automatic devices, small appliances, and kitchen utensils used as musical instruments.
