Testing the limits of audibility and intentionality, Canadian sound artist crys cole‘s creations focus on the delicate textures and complex sound environments that surround us. In this two-day workshop, the Berlin-based artist proposes to explore the possibilities offered by listening as a compositional tool; an attentive listening dedicated to the most intimate and often ignored sounds of our everyday environment. Among other things, she will propose a listening practice as a way of considering different approaches to composition and the possibilities of space, dimension and movement that can be applied to our own musical and sound practices.

Over the last two decades, crys cole has presented his work – sound installations and improvisational performances – all over the world, has collaborated with renowned artists such as Tetuzi Akiyama, Annea Lockwood, David Rosenboom, Francis Plagne, Keiji Haino, Leif Elggren and Felicia Atkinson, and has ongoing projects in duo format with Oren Ambarchi and James Rushford.

This workshop is aimed at people familiar with recording, composition and active listening.
