Why we are forced to leave our hometown La Ràpita

It is a news that we wish we never had to give you: Eufònic has to leave La Ràpita. With all the logistics and contracting underway to hold the festival, the tickets on sale and the program with nearly 60 artists already closed, we are forced to restructure this year’s edition. The new consistory of the City Council of La Ràpita has withdrawn by surprise its support, in the logistic collaboration, in spaces and economic, and this makes it impossible to carry out the programmed activities.

The loss of confidence that we have encountered, the unilateral withdrawal of the agreement regarding the important help of the municipal brigade and the cession of spaces, as well as the financial contribution –despite accounting for only 7% of the overall budget of the festival– makes impossible the realization of Eufònic in the town that has seen us born and helped to grow over 11 editions. This year 25 concerts and performances were to be held, spread over nine spaces of the town, in addition to eight artistic installations –some of them created ex profeso for the public space– and a new exhibition project with six digital artists. All these activities are suspended due to the impossibility of their relocation, and we are already working on the 2024 edition, in talks with other municipalities of the Terres de l’Ebre, to organize the festival in a new format and in new locations.

Even so, for EUFÒNIC 2023 we keep the dates from 24 to 27 August, and the traditional Pòrtic Eufònic of the previous weekend, drastically reducing the programming, which will include about 30 artists, and reinforcing the activities in Amposta, Tortosa, Campredó, Miravet, Roquetes, Ulldecona and outdoor spaces of the Ebro Delta and the interior of the Ebro region. We also maintain Eufònic Pro and will strengthen related activities, such as workshops and masterclasses, as well as new international research and creation projects.

As many of you already know, a month ago Eufònic received the 2023 National Culture Award by the Catalan Government and the CoNCA (Consell Nacional de la Cultura i de les Arts), the highest recognition of Catalan culture. Despite this, after 12 years of experience, we are forced to leave La Ràpita, the epicenter of the activities of the festival, where we occupied nine spaces with performances and artistic installations in the Auditori Sixto Mir, the Pavelló Firal, the Església Nova and some unique spaces that we reconverted for artistic use, such as the Matadero, the Mercat Vell or the Sindicat. In the 11 editions held so far we have gathered more than 400 artists and 80 panellists, both international and national, projecting the Terres de l’Ebre as a focus of creation, connecting them with the most avant-garde culture and giving voice to many Ebrean artists. About 35,000 people have visited Eufònic, both from the Ebro territory and other parts of the country.

We want to thank our hometown La Ràpita the support received during eleven editions of the festival and we are deeply sorry of not being able to make here an edition in which we have worked throughout the year, with great enthusiasm and effort of the artistic and production team, in addition to the investment already made in artistic booking, transportation, material and equipment. We also regret the jobs as well as the hiring with companies in the territory that will be lost with the cancellation in La Ràpita.

We will automatically refund the amount of all subscriptions purchased.

And soon we will announce the definitive programming, of course!

Thanks for the understanding and support!
