FOLDA – Festival of Live Digital Art (Canadà)

Adrienne Wong is Artistic Director of SpiderWebShow Performance, a company that questions the impact of digital disruption through art. She co-organises the Festival of Live Digital Art (FOLDA) with Michael Wheeler and Marcel Stewart. Adrienne’s artistic work spans theatrical and digital spaces. She is particularly interested in developing new work and using theatre and engagement as a strategy to promote progressive change. She was CBC Radio Q’s first artist-in-residence. Landline (created with Dustin Harvey) toured nationally and internationally in French and English. Me On The Map (co-created with JD Derbyshire) continues to be adapted for young urban artists.

Project – Thalastasi

Visual artist, code developer and teacher. With a background in computer engineering, her practice extends through live performance, video, digital media and installation, and explores abstract narratives through different artistic practices. As a teacher, he teaches visual programming focused on designers and artists in different spaces, both in talks and workshops dedicated to creative coding with free software tools (processing). His versatility has led him to create synergies with artists from different artistic disciplines (classical music, electronic, experimental, fashion, theatre, contemporary dance…) although he is known, above all, for his audiovisual performances where he integrates coding and processing in real time, in collaboration with musicians.

Project – The Garden of Earthly Delights

Anna Rierola is a digital artist working at the intersection between art and science. Her works are based on scientific images obtained from research projects that she reuses and reinterprets to project a vision of a unified, networked, interconnected or interdependent world.

The symbolism of his particular “Jardín de las delicias” (Garden of Earthly Delights) addresses concepts such as the creation of the world, paradise, lust or sin and becomes here the complex system of the multiple levels of biological organisation (organelles, cells, tissues, organs, functions) thanks to images compiled by researchers at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute through the use of the microscope in the study of different life processes and stages.

The Museum of Art – Kochi (Japó)

Chizuru Matsumoto is a producer and project manager at The Museum of Art, Kochi – Museum Hall since December 2016. Her practice engages with artists and our neighbor community to explore the potentials of performing arts and interdisciplinary projects through local cultural resource, wishing to activate our contemporary perspectives. Her recent projects include “Yoroboshi” by Q/Satoko Ichihara (coproduction), Bernie Dieter’s Little Death Club (Japan premiere), “Cycle of L” by Saeborg (premiere), “Kame-kame Kura-kura” a new gamelan music commission for children composed by Yasuno Miyauchi, “Gaka” by Tomoko Mukaiyama (coproduction) among others. 

In her early career she also has got involved in managing butoh dancers such as Akira Kasai, Ko Murobushi, Setsuko Yamada as well as Buddhist chant group, Shomyo no kai – Voices of a Thousand Year, as well as worked as production coordinator for Toshiki Okada/chelfitsch “Time’s Journey through a Room” and for Dance New Air (contemporary dance festival) and TPAM (former YPAM).

Matsumoto received MA in Advanced Theatre Practice (scenography) from The Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London, and joined the traineeship program “Next Generation: Producing Performing Arts” hosted by Japan Foundation Asia Center in FY2017

Mexican artist and transdisciplinary designer. The work of Citlali Hernández (Turbulente) focuses on exploring the potential of the body in the field of electronic and digital arts, experimenting with the materialities of performance art, cables, pixels and circuits. He has been exploring the processes of identity construction in the social communication platforms of the internet territory, through hybrid online-offline performances. During the last ten years she has collaborated with other artists in different projects presented in Mexico, Chile, Holland and Spain. She teaches in different academic institutions in subjects related to digital art, design and applied interaction.

Generating hybrid experiences between the physical and digital worlds by combining science and technology with materials, light, sound and visuals is the core and starting point of this young creator. Gerard Valls Montaño‘s projects transform physical spaces into atmospheres that provide visitors with unique experiences. In many installations, data on issues that move or affect society form a prominent part of the idea, providing a distinctive conceptual representation and temporality to the project.

Hamill Industries are Pablo Barquín and Anna Díaz, artists based in Barcelona. Throughout their ten-year career, the duo have created films, installations and stage productions. Their artistic practice places experiential storytelling at the forefront of the creative process, allowing the choice of format to emerge organically. This transmedia flexibility is facilitated by the extensive research they conduct in their workshop, where they develop cutting-edge tools to support their vision.

Their work explores the concept of the expanded visual and represents a commitment to question and blur the boundaries between the digital and tangible realms. With the physical world as inspiration, they not only re-imagine the virtual sphere, but also reality. Straddling the line between inventors and illusionists, his projects are always highly sensory pieces, regardless of the final support.

Ull Nu (Andorra)

Graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He currently works as director and programmer of Ull Nu, Andorra Audiovisual Festival, and as project manager for the creative studio Blit Studio. He is also the programmer of Las noches de videomapping, co-organised with the French Embassy in Andorra.

He has created the audiovisuals for theatre productions such as ‘Límites’, by Guillem Gefaell (2022) or ‘Cuatro mujeres’, by Roger Casamajor (2021). He has also produced the videomapping for the Andorra pavilion at the Dubai World Expo (2021).

He co-directed the short films ‘El conde Yácula’ (2007), ‘Los tres soldados’ (2010) and ‘El mal dado’ (2023) with Alfons Casal, and ‘Mares Pico-nic’ (2011), ‘El huevo de Fabergé’ (2016) and the documentary ‘Sergi Mas’ (2017) on his own.

P3 Vitrina

Co-founder of P3 Vitrina, an innovative exhibition space dedicated to promoting emerging artists and encouraging dialogue between different artistic disciplines.

Laia Cabrera. Biologist and actress from Gandesa. Graduate in Environmental Sciences (UAB, Barcelona 2004), Master in Public Health (UPF, 2005). She specialised in environmental epidemiology and is doing pre-doctoral studies in Biomedicine at the Institute of Global Health in Barcelona. She began her training in the performing arts in 2000, studying Acting at the Theatre Institute of Barcelona. Subsequently, she graduated with a postgraduate degree in Sensory Language and Poetics of Play (UdG, 2010). She complements her theatrical studies by training in the field of dance and object theatre and expands her training in puppet manipulation and construction techniques by collaborating with the Prague Theatre Academy.

Currently she collaborates as an actress and performer in several companies such as Natxo Montero Danza, Zanguango Teatro and Los Detectives.

In the last years she has focused her artistic practice on the research on the process of hybridisation between science and art. For her latest stage project ‘Particles in suspension’ she collaborates with the visual and performing artist Maria Ibarretxe, Rosa Casado and the epidemiologist and doctor honoris causa, Jordi Sunyer.

Lauren Moffatt is an Australian artist working with immersive environments and experimental narrative practices. Her works, often presented in hybrid and iterative forms, explore the paradoxical subjectivity of connected bodies and the indistinct boundaries between digital and organic life. She uses a combination of conventional, outdated, and pioneering technologies to create universes that span between physical and virtual space. Lauren’s works have been exhibited most recently at Sonar (ES), Matadero Madrid (ES), Haus am Lützowplatz (DE), La Gaïté Lyrique (FR), SXSW (US), UNSW Galleries (AU), Daegu Art Museum (KOR), Le Grand Palais Ephémère (FR), SAVVY Contemporary (DE), FACT Liverpool (UK) The Sundance Film Festival (US) ZKM (DE), Q21 Freiraum (AT) and at Hartware MedienkunstVerein (DE).  Lauren lives and works in Valencia (ES). 

ARTIFICIA

Innovation manager at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the CSIC, Lissette Lemus is committed to digital transformation from a social and ethical perspective, promoting the transfer of AI research results to social challenges such as social integration, citizen participation, improving mental health and the development of more open and collaborative models in areas such as education and energy. Graduated from the University of Havana, she has developed her career as a computer engineer in research centres, startups and in her own entrepreneurial projects.

Biennal de Friburg

Lorena Juan is the current artistic director of the Freiburg Biennale and exhibition curator of the transmediale festival since 2020. In her curatorial practice, she works with experimental formats, public space and collaborative processes. As a researcher, Lorena Juan focuses on practices in art and activism that emerge from queer feminist collectivity. Lorena Juan has curated exhibitions, event series and screenings in Berlin at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Akademie der Künste, Schwules Museum, nGbK and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, among others. She is co-founder of Coven Berlin, a queer feminist online platform for embodied affective research and hybrid artistic approaches focusing on the intersection of environment, migration, class and gender. Since 2020 she has been co-curator of Kunst im Untergrund, an open, international program of art in public space as part of the nGbK in Berlin. She has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts and the University of Hildesheim.

Marc Villanueva (Barcelona, 1992). Graduated in Dramatic Art, specialising in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy, at the Institut del Teatre de la Diputació de Barcelona, and in Literary Studies at the Universitat de Barcelona. He has a Master’s degree in Applied Theatre Studies from the Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen.

Her artistic projects critically interrogate political problems through the use of contemporary languages, focusing especially on the ethical dimensions and problems of representation, the performativity of discourse and the interrelations between knowledge and power.

In addition to his own projects, he works as a playwright and teacher. Together with Xesca Salvà, he coordinates the Postgraduate in Scene and Digital Technology at the Institut del Teatre, and is artist-in-residence at the Santa Mònica del Gremi de Digitalització. He is a member of the editorial board of the magazine (Pausa.)

María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde, artists and technologists, focus their joint practice on the relationships between humans, non-humans and machines, focusing on the study of human sensory limits and the creation of complex interspecies communication systems between humans and plants. They will have spent two weeks working in the Delta and will present their experiences, the results and what they expect from all this in the framework of Eufónico PRO at the Escola d’Art i Cultura de Tortosa.

Chroniques (Marsella)

Mathieu Vabre is one of the founders and director of Seconde Nature, an association recognized for its pioneering commitment to contemporary art in the digital age. Today, co-director of Seconde Nature and Zinc, and specialist in the relationship between contemporary art and technology, he is the artistic director of the CHRONICLES Biennial. As an exhibition curator and delegated producer, he has worked on numerous exhibitions and international programs. He also accompanies artists in the creation of works, installations or shows such as Etienne Rey, Nicolas Clauss, Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves, Julien Clauss. He also animates and coordinates a production platform alongside twenty local and international places and structures that support about fifteen projects per year.

Arts at CERN (Ginebra)

Monica Bello is curator and art historian and head of Arts at CERN, the art programme at CERN, Geneva. In this role she oversees the lab’s various artistic initiatives, managing the design and implementation of the various artistic programmes, residencies, artistic productions and exhibitions. Since 2015, she has been in charge of international collaborations with cultural and scientific institutions in order to promote innovative encounters between art and science. As a curator, she has recently developed the inaugural exhibition of CERN Science Gateway, Exploring the Unknown, 2023; Dark Matters, at Science Gallery Melbourne, 2023; or Perpetual Motion, for the Icelandic Pavilion of the Venice Biennale, 2022. He is currently preparing the exhibition Quantum Visions for Tabakalera, Donostia, which opens in 2025. Prior to her arrival at CERN, Bello was artistic director of VIDA (2010-15), an international programme dedicated to art and technology at the Fundación Telefónica.

Fundação de Serralves (Portugal)

Pedro Rocha’s main activity has been at the Serralves Foundation in Porto (1999-) where he is responsible for the musical programmes presented throughout the year and within annual events such as The Museum as Performance (2015-) and the Serralves em Festa festival (2004-). He has been co-curator of the performing arts festival Trama (2006-2011) held in various venues in the city of Porto, of the Get Documented! cycle (2008-2011) co-organised with the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto. He also co-developed and edited the podcast Periscope (2021).

Pedro Rocha was guest curator of the music and sound performances at the Hangar Bicocca art centre in Milan (2014-2020) and was part of the curatorial team of P! (Lisbon, 2017), which included a programme of performances, lectures and the publication of the book Performance in the Public Sphere. He curated the programme Tactical Contact (2019) with Mark Fell for the No Bounds festival in Sheffield and, with Arnaud Maguet, the Lusosonic festival (2022) at Villa Arson in Nice.  He curated the installation ‘Quadro Sonoro (Bic Barchino)’ by Riccardo Baruzzi for ArtCity Bologna 2021.

Since 1998, Pedro Rocha has had several solo and collaborative projects, mainly exploring experimental and electronic music and in different contexts such as radio, clubs, art galleries and performances. Recently he has collaborated with visual artist Carla Filipe in some of her shows with live music and text sessions.

Project – Astres

Santi Vilanova and Eloi Maduell, trained in the fields of graphic design, musical composition and computer engineering, conceive works at the crossroads between art, science and audiovisual research.

All their projects are developed using their own technologies and take the form of immersive light and sound installations, pictorial works, sculptural devices, kinetic widgets, scenographies or multimedia concerts that explore an abstract universe of visual music.

Inspired by natural phenomena, scientific research, literature, abstract art, experimental animation or contemporary music, they develop abstract pieces that – from multiple perspectives – consolidate the perception of space, light, sound and time.

In recent years, Playmodes has developed projects on an international scale: New York, Berlin, Melbourne, Shanghai, São Paulo, Geneva, Rome and London. For international art institutions such as the ZKM-Karlsruhe, the Ars Electronica in Linz or the Copenhagen Opera; for Catalan art centres such as Santa Mònica, Bòlit or the CCCB; for light festivals such as Fete des Lumieres in Lyon, Signal in Prague, LlumBCN or Luz Madrid; or for contemporary music events such as Sónar in Barcelona, Day for Night in Houston, DGTL in Amsterdam or Aggregate in Berlin. They have been awarded international distinctions in the fields of design, music and new media art, and their pieces have been acquired by collectors such as the New Arte Collection and private individuals from all over the world.

He has a degree in graphic design and is passionate about sound art. From the combination of these two disciplines through the catalyst of “creative technologies”, of which he is a self-taught developer.

Trained in the radish scene of the early 2000s, his sound work has evolved to integrate this influence into new territories. His recent research combines digital algorithms and sonification engines with classical acoustic staves and ensembles, focusing on the idea of a visual music.

Vilanova has also been involved in education throughout his artistic career. He has been a permanent lecturer at several Catalan universities for more than 15 years, training new generations of multimedia artists.

Vilanova is one of the members of the audiovisual research studio Playmodes.

IF Barcelona

Sara Serrano has a degree in Stage Direction and Art History. Master of Arts. Theatre Practice from Rose Bruford College. She has completed her training with numerous courses and seminars related to the different disciplines of art, technology applied to the image and cultural management and production. As an extension of her work as a playwright and creator in the performing arts, she has made incursions into the field of installation and multimedia montage and has extensive experience in curating, production, cultural management and coordination, design and artistic direction of events and exhibitions. She is currently executive director of CLUB9, a platform and producer of artistic projects related to performance practices and performativity studies, director and co-curator (together with Jordi Alomar) of the Festival de Títeres, Objetos y Teatro Visual IF Barcelona and co-curator (together with Graner, Fabrica de Creació) / artistic coordinator of the dance and movement festival Moujuïc, Barcelona (2023-2024).

As a creator she has presented her work in contexts such as Black Box (Oslo, Norway), The Fringe Festival (New York, USA), Feria Internacional ZAPOPUM (Guadalajara, Mexico), Stamsund International Theatre Festival (Norway), Teatre op de Markt (Hasselt, Belgium), Melbourne International Festival (Australia), Fira de Tárrega (Catalonia), Yun-Lin Arts Festival (Taiwan), FIA, Festival Internacional de Costa Rica (San José, CR) or Altofest (Naples, Italy).

Marta Royo is a research scientist, designer and visual artist, with a degree in Biology (UAB, 2012), Master in Advanced Microbiology (UB, 2013) and PhD in Environmental Microbiology (UAB, 2020). She conducted research at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) for 10 years (2012-2022), focusing on bacteria in the polar oceans. During this period she participated in oceanographic campaigns in the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Antarctic Ocean. During 2023, she was the scientific director of 16 Times, a start-up focused on digital health and sustainability that is a spin-off of the data communication studio Domestic Data Streamers. She is an expert in the analysis, visualisation and communication of big data through art and design, and currently teaches on the Master’s Degree in Data Design at ELISAVA University.

Toni Aranda is a multidisciplinary creative at the crossroads of science, art and design. He holds a degree in Biology, a Master’s degree in Cytogenetics and Reproductive Biology and a PhD in Cell Biology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2021. He developed his scientific career researching the use of nanoparticles in cancer treatment, at the intersection of biology, chemistry and material sciences. His journey as a 3D designer began in 2020, sponsored by Adobe and OFFF Festival as part of the OFFF Academy creative mentorships. He is currently artist-in-residence at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) in Barcelona.

In 2018, Toni Aranda and Marta Royo founded SHOOK Studio with the aim of making scientific knowledge more accessible through art and design. They develop new methodologies for the visual communication of science for the general public as well as for academic and industrial professionals. They investigate the intersection of arts, science, design, technology and communication for their creations, specialising in graphic design, 3D and the use of AI tools in their creative process. Their audiovisual works have been presented at OFFF (2020), Sónar+D (2023, 2024) and Eufónico (2023) and they have actively participated in the dissemination of their hybrid skills at festivals such as Parets Forum (2023) and Sónar+D (2023, 2024), as well as at the Swedish Linnaeus University (2023).

Project – Baobab Création Multidisciplinaire

Thomas Duret is a multidisciplinary artist who works as a performer, author, creator and curator. His curiosity and neurodivergence always lead him off the beaten track, and that is where he likes to create the most. Outside the box, anything is possible. He works to reinvent and challenge normative ways of doing things, both in creation and dissemination. One of the reasons he became a curator is the possible porosity between disciplines, with a view to bringing incongruent and underrepresented practices back onto the cultural agenda. 

Projecte – Thalastasi

Vanessa Balagué is a biochemist and works in the Marine Microbial Ecology group at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), focusing on the application of molecular biology techniques for the genetic identification of microorganisms in different marine habitats. In this sense, he has carried out oceanographic campaigns in the Arctic, Antarctic, Atlantic, Mediterranean and Baltic. She is co-editor of the book “Observando los polos” (Libros de la Catarata, 2021), coordinator of a chapter of the book “L’oceà que volem” (Editorial CSIC, 2022), coordinator of the educational project “PlànctON” and has participated in the making of the documentary “Relats del Canvi Global. Chapter I: Delta de l’Ebre”. She is currently interested in the possibilities of dialogue between art and science and is the coordinator of the Art&Sea for social change programme at the ICM-CSIC.
