A leading figure in trans live art and performance, British artist Mandy Romero transforms the street into a space of appearances, encounters and symbolic journeys. In “Via Crucis Via Lucem”, she activates a ritual action that draws on the Stations of the Cross and the last words of Christ to address the pain, violence and harassment that trans communities continue to face in many parts of the world. Through the streets of Amposta, between the Canal, Carrer Major and Avinguda de la Ràpita, she will unfold a direct, unsettling and symbolically charged work that takes performance beyond the conventional stage and places it where social conventions are most visible: in the midst of everyday life. In a way, Cabaret Eufònic begins here, with her: in the street.
Mandy Romero
A British trans artist based in Liverpool, Mandy Romero develops a practice that spans live art, performance, cabaret, film, writing and public actions. Her artistic identity does not function as a simple alter ego, but as a living device for experimentation, transformation and presence. She has presented actions and interventions in contexts including Shanghai, Copenhagen, Barcelona and the Pearl River Delta, among many others, and maintains a long-standing relationship with Liverpool’s Bluecoat Arts Centre. She also took on the role of Queen of Culture during Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008 and has developed TReasured – A Living Encyclopaedia of Trans Experience, a living archive dedicated to trans experience.
