This is new, trust us. This year, at Sónar+D the very first quantum livecoding workshop took place (as far as we know, never done before!). Now, Eduard Alarcón (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), one of the key voices in research on quantum computing applied to the arts, and Antònia Folguera will talk about all those things that might be hard to grasp but that we need now more than ever: how to make music with a quantum computer, how to generate visuals (like the piece shown at the Barraca de l’Ametller the previous weekend)… and how such fascinating stuff can be done so simply. A space for experimentation to understand the practices of artists working with code, generative graphics, and hybridizing with quantum logics. A whole world to discover.

Eduard Alarcón
Eduard Alarcón is a researcher and professor, Full Professor at the School of Telecommunications Engineering in Barcelona (UPC), where he graduated in 2000 with a national award. He has been a visiting professor in the United States (2003) and Sweden (2011), scientific advisor to the Spanish Ministry of Science (2019), and recipient of the ICREA Academia Award from the Government of Catalonia (2019 and 2024). He currently leads the Quantum Computing research group.
He has participated in research projects funded by the European Union, NSF, NASA and ESA, working in multidisciplinary teams with colleagues from MIT, EPFL, Google, Aalto, Intel, UC Berkeley, and Cornell, among others. He was Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal IEEE Journal of Emerging Issues in Circuits and Systems, and in the field of higher education, he co-led the CDIO World Congress of Engineering Education in Barcelona in 2013 and was part of the international committee for the 2012 edition held at MIT and Harvard.
