United by their love for the avant-garde scene of the 1980s in Brussels (the legendary Tuxedomoon immediately comes to mind), composer and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Doerell founded the Dictaphone project in 2000 alongside Berlin musician Roger Döring (clarinet and saxophone). Since then, they have recruited violinist Alex Stolze, released five albums ranging from experimental electronics to atmospheric jazz and electroacoustics, and have performed at festivals such as Mutek, Transmediale, Unsound, and FIB Benicàssim. In their latest work, “Goats & Distortions 5” (Denovali, 2021), they immerse us in melancholic and phantasmagorical atmospheres of exquisite and timeless beauty and subliminal elegance. We’re not exaggerating: with their concerts, you might know where you begin mentally, but not where you end up.
