The iconic image of Salomé –biblical paradigm of voluptuous and wanton woman- in the painting “L’Apparition” by the French symbolist painter Gustave Moreau is the starting point of this audiovisual piece by Ela Orleans. An electronic sound artist, academic, cinematic composer and Scottish performer based in London, Orleans integrates preparatory images of the painting into a collage of cinema, theatre, dance and music that distorts and transforms classical works such as the Strauss’ opera “Salome”. In her work –presented at MoMA, The Venice Biennale and TATE Britain– she fuses noir aesthetics with fractured narratives and influences ranging from the sound experimentation of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop to Bernard Herrmann film scores. All this crowned by a warm and deep voice that will guide us on a hallucinatory, truly memorable journey.
