Few sonic experiences are as immersive as this one. Drawing on recordings collected over decades across the world, Francisco López creates acoustic environments of extraordinary density that do not describe places or landscapes – they create new spaces to inhabit through listening. With the audience blindfolded and surrounded by a quadraphonic sound system, López transforms listening into a physical and perceptual experience in which familiar points of reference disappear and each person traces their own journey.

Francisco López

A key figure in sound art and experimental music, Francisco López has spent more than four decades exploring the possibilities of sound as both material and experience. His work often begins with environmental recordings, yet moves beyond the idea of document or soundscape to construct his own acoustic universes – intense, immersive and profoundly transformative. He has presented concerts, installations and projects in more than eighty countries and is widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in contemporary sound creation.

Masterclass with Francisco López

Sound Creation: Social Experimental Audio, Environmental Sonic Matter and Immersive Listening

The day before the concert, Francisco López will share the ideas that have shaped more than four decades of artistic practice. A session exploring how he has developed his sonic language through environmental recordings, the international community of artists working with experimental audio, and an approach to listening that places sound at the centre of the experience.

He will also reflect on the possibilities of immersive sound systems, the role of space in sonic perception, and his critique of the conventional stage format, advocating for a mode of listening that is less contemplative and more physical, direct and enveloping.
