With “Camp a través” (Across The Fields), visual artist Joana Capella Buendia proposes a choreographic exercise of muscle memory drawn from a wheat field. Joana works with performance and other media such as installation, text, and audiovisual creation. Her practice unfolds through the use of forms rooted in popular and mainstream culture, and emerges as a response to the mandates of the culture of effort that dominate the working contexts she inhabits. Currently, she is experimenting with tactics of resistance to the performance paradigms inherent to the capitalist agrilogistics project.
She is an artist-in-residence at the contemporary art center La Escocesa (Barcelona) and is part of the educational team of INTERSECCIONS Visual Arts in El Prat de Llobregat. Previously, she has been in residence at Fabra i Coats with Sant Andreu Contemporani, and has completed stays at, among others, the Centre Arbar in Girona and the Contemporary Art Center of Huarte (Navarre). She has also exhibited at venues such as the CCEBA (Buenos Aires), as well as at Homesession gallery, La Capella, Centre d’Art Maristany, LOOP Festival, and SWAB Ephemeral.
