In Ulldecona, as part of the Eufònic Terra programme, we’ll be welcoming the writer, translator, musician, and cultural critic Martí Sales. We don’t want to give too much away: let’s just say it’ll be a showcooking in which he’ll “perform” a rice recipe. Sales has penned articles, verse bildungsromans, manifestos, an opera libretto (within the Òhpera project of the Gran Teatre del Liceu), heart-wrenching songs with the musical group Els Surfing Sirles, octosyllabic nights, and even dictionaries, such as “Aliment” (Club Editor, 2021), brimming with tales of art, beauty, music, pleasure, and desire surrounding the social and cultural dimension of eating. He’s also translated a fair few books: from Ray Bradbury to Patti Smith, Kae Tempest, John Berger, Kurt Vonnegut, and John Fante . He’s had a go at acting and lighting tech, teaching and waitering, ghostwriting and delivering Christmas hampers. Furthermore, he’s directed the Poesia i + festival and the Barcelona International Poetry Festival, as well as “Fans de l’Alcover-Moll”, a podcast about song lyrics.
