paumm is Pau Monfort (Vilafranca, Ports, 1989), a music teacher in public school. His sound creations, close to ambient and experimental music, are based on the Valencian sound heritage. He debuted with ‘Semivigília’ (2023), an album for which he was nominated for the VI Carles Santos Awards for Valencian music in the category of contemporary and experimental music. It is a re-composition of the marches and pasodobles played by the Unió Musical de Vilafranca in parades that announce the beginning of festivals and celebrations. Listening to the marching band from bed, as it passes under the house, is a hidden pleasure shared by many neighbors. With the head on the pillow, sounds come, go, and often end up blending with dreams. This state of semi-vigilance causes melodies and harmonies to be complemented by memory, making it difficult to distinguish what we hear from what resonates inside our heads. This project aims to revisit the traditional street repertoire for bands: it transports and transforms it from more or less identifiable forms into almost static sonic spaces, often repetitive, that evolve very slowly and invite us to set aside the passage of time.
