In the abundant totum revolutum that the intersection between tradition and modernity has become, singer, guitarist, and composer Sandra Monfort (Pedreguer, 1992) stands out for the personality, audacity, and knowledge with which she rescues the best of the past to project it into the present and point towards the future. After confirming her worth and versatility with “La Mona” (Hidden Track, 2023), one of the most dazzling contemporary popular music works on the national scene (playing in the same league as Rodrigo Cuevas, Maria José Llergo, Maria Arnal, or Valeria Castro), the until recently also member of the trio Marala has now surprised and delighted us with a turn of the helm as daring as it is fun. Her new EP “La Mona de Nit” works as a nocturnal B-side of “La Mona”: it delves into the party and popular culture with a firm and brazen fusion of ‘bakalao’, electronica, traditional sounds, 80s pop, town festivals, melancholy, and queer dissidence. We can’t imagine a better closing for Eufònic 2025.
