Yes, here comes Eufònic 2023!
After a complex process, we have relocated some of the artists already announced and we can present the program of our 12th edition, focused on the arts in landscape, digital practices, electronic music and the contemporary review of traditions. From 24 to 27 August, 32 artists and most free activities spread over 6 towns in the Terres de l’Ebre. Thanks to all the collaborators for their involvement and to all of you for your support!
PÒRTIC EUFÒNIC (18-20 AUGUST)
The preamble of the festival will take several gorgeus spaces: the Ulldecona Castle will get intervened by the master of light Antoni Arola and will host the metaphysical pop of MTINES; in the Museum of Tortosa, the abstract 3D installation of SHOOK Studio on the fragility of the Ebro Delta will precede the ancestral beat of the Mallorcan singer Júlia Colom; in the tower of Font de Quinto (Campredó) we will attend the AV postcards about the exile of Pablo Schvarzman and Adriana Vila; and in the Miravet Castle will resound the sorcerer and dreary violin of Current 93’s Aloma Ruiz Boada.
DANCE ELECTRONICS AND AV SHOWS IN THE AMPOSTA CASTLE
The most exciting international techno and the new Catalan queer scene will be installed on the castle area by the river: techno and break beat with reactive visuals of the British Alex Banks, the bass music tribalism of Belgian producer Flore along with the visuals of WSK, the techno-house of DJ Raul Naro with the dreamlike images generated by Sevillian Dormida; and from Barcelona, the emotional electronic performance of Hadren and the colorful and vehement acidcore of LaFrancesssa.
LIGHT, VOICE, DIGITAL ARTS
At the Casal de Amposta, Montréal artist Myriam Bleau will combine techno deconstruction and volumetric lasers; from Berlin, Tarik Barri and Lea Fabrikant will deploy a collage of 3D visuals, digital electronics and vocal improvisation. At the Centre d’Art Lo Pati, musician and researcher Óscar Martín will present a light sculpture machine that generates music. And during the festival days, the collective Estampa will monitor air traffic from the Plaça del Mercat through a device that launches dissonant predictions between astrology and macroeconomics, while you can interact in our virtual space with the work of the young visual designer NDDR3.
CREATION IN NATURAL SITES
The Ebro Delta will become a canvas on which various sound and visual artists will weave their works. The prestigious Navarrese sound artist Merche Blasco will present at Encanyissada the result of her artistic residency researching the sound of the largest lagoon in the Delta. And, fruit of the creative residence Eufònic / Lo Pati, the Irish Jo Kimmins, the Portuguese Joana Moher and Llúcia Pla (Amposta) + María Grandmontagne (Bilbao) will present their pieces linked to the Delta ecosystem.
EXTREME PRACTICES: AMBIENT MUSIC, POETRY AND PUNK CATHARSIS
You know us already: in Eufònic totally opposite things happen. In the Ebro Observatory we will listen the verses of Neus P. Cirera and the trumpet of Raynald Colom, and we will look at stars in the company of German composer Arovane, a classic of ambient-house and IDM. Instead the Hermitage of the Pietat in Ulldecona will tremble with the electropunk of the group of Albacete Nerve Agent and the post-punk cathartis of Barcelona’s Sandré.
END OF SUMMER PARTY IN THE BALTASAR ULLALS
Among freshwater springs and eucalyptus, the most playful celebration of Eufònic 2023 will be led by the Barcelona punk transvestite band Ruïnosa and the Strippers of Rahola, and the sensual DJ set based on electro-clash and feminist neo-dance sounds of Ivana Ray Singh, member of Konvent Puntzero collective. Before, the Ribera Forest will host the performance of Txe Roimeser and Andrea Corrales that crosses the trans and the medical to point out the cracks of the “pharmaco-pornographic” tissue.
EUFÒNIC CAMPUS
Our formative program will feature two first level workshops: the Swedish sound artist BJ Nilsen‘s on field recordings in relation to the current ecological crisis and Sam Aaron’s, master of live coding, on the creative tool Sonic Pi. The latter will also give a concert of algorithmic techno at Espai Sant Joan in Tortosa, along with Barcelona’s live coding project QBRNTHSS. In addition, we will have hold two conversations on composition and production with producer Uwe Zahn (aka Arovane) and pianist and singer Maria Coma. Info and registration.
EUFÒNIC PRO
On Thursday 24 and Friday 25, we will open our space for the exchange of knowledge by the hand of the Escola per l’Art i la Cultura de Tortosa with debates, networking meetings and project presentations such as Oboro (Montréal), Avatar (Québec) or Casa Wabi (Mexico), among others. This year we will focus on technology and creativity, but also on censorship and fragility of the cultural system. Registration is now open.
Again, thank you for joining us in this damn special edition!
